Daisy Duke Meets Little

Daisy paced back and forth, impatiently brimming with anticipation. It had been three days and her humans still weren’t home. They sent the other humans they called mom and dad to watch Daisy. Daisy didn’t understand why her humans had been gone so long. She did like the one they called dad, though, because he played fetch with Daisy. Daisy loved playing fetch! But after fetch, he would tell Daisy to get back in her pen, and then he would leave again. Daisy crawled into her house and laid down. She thought she’d take a nap, and maybe her humans would return when she awoke.

Another day went by and her humans still weren’t home. The Dad played fetch with her again, but Daisy began to feel like he was just distracting her from the news that her humans were never coming back, and she’d be forced to live in her pen forever. She looked at Dad expectantly, coaxing him to give up the whereabouts of her humans, but he just patted her head and gave her food. Another distraction.

So Daisy rested some more, getting more and more sad by the moment. As she was resting, she listened to the chattering of the squirrels. The squirrels used to get Daisy all excited, but she’d realized she couldn’t reach them from her pen, so she merely turned her head today. Suddenly, she heard it! Her human’s whistle! Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Daisy felt she’d better remind him she was back here. “Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark!” He hasn’t responded yet. What’s going on? She wondered. She’d better let him know again, “Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark!” That should do it. Nothing yet. “Bark! Bark! Bark!”

After what seemed like hours, her human finally came down to her pen to let her out! Oh boy! Hooray! Daisy loved her human. She couldn’t believe she got to see him again. She thought he was gone for good! Daisy ran and got her fetching stick. Her human would probably want to play.

She grabbed her stick and bolted up the stairs, but her human didn’t want to play. She set her stick down and ran to the back door but it was still closed. Daisy saw her lady human through the glass and figured she’d better tell her she was at the door, “Bark! Bark! Bark!”

“Alright, Daisy, enough of that! You’ll wake the baby!” Her human says as he comes up behind her.

Daisy didn’t understand this baby word. She looked quizzically at her human hoping he would clarify, but he merely opened the door. Oh well, that’ll do, she thought. There was her lady human! Daisy ran to her. She was so excited. She thought she’d never see her again.

Wait just a minute. Who’s that?! Daisy looked at the tiny human in the lady’s arms. She paused, hesitant to go closer, then tentatively approached. She sniffed the tiny human head to toe. Hmm… curious. Very curious, she thought. Daisy liked the smell of this tiny human and licked her head in approval. The tiny human let out a “waaaaah!” which startled Daisy. She looked up at the lady human for an explanation. The lady human just laughed and patted Daisy on the head.

The lady human carried the little one into another room. Daisy followed as she watched her place the little one in a tiny bed. Daisy sniffed the bed to ensure safety, and after inspection, decided it was an okay place for the little human to be. Daisy looked at her human with approval. Her human smiled at her. Daisy loved these humans, even the new little one.
